Texas Hold'em Poker: Blind Stealing

Blind stealing is an important skill to master for any aspiring poker player. It enables you to grow your stack little by little and in turn helps you stay in the game. This tactic is important as it has a very low risk but a very decent reward. What exactly is stealing the blinds? Well first of all, the blinds are forced bets posted by players to the immediate left of the dealer. These bets combine to make up the initial pot. Stealing thus means to try and win the initial pot without having to get to the flop. So how do you do it? It's simple, to steal the blinds, you have to make everybody on the table give up on their cards and fold. The way to do this would be to raise and re-raise before the flop. You have to bet big and bet hard. Small bets and limping won't discourage other players as it shows doubt and weakness in your cards. Late position would be the best position in which to steal the blinds in. You get to see what the players before you have done and you have a ton of information about their hands. If you sense that their hands are weak or are not that strong, and you know that they'll fold to a raise, then it would be the best chance to steal the blinds. Early and middle position would be a bad spot for blind stealing. Your opponents behind you might like their hand and call your raise or even re-raise you. To avoid this, make sure you have a good or at the very least a decent hand when trying to steal the blinds. If you are playing with a short stack, then avoid waiting for a raise before raising yourself. Go all-in with a decent hand and try to double up or steal the blinds as soon as possible. You should not attempt to steal the blinds every single time. You should pick your spots and pick your cards too. If you raise with nothing and another player calls you, then you are most likely to lose your bet. What's more, not all blinds are worthy of stealing. Some blinds are too low and are not worth risking your stack on. Some blinds though, can be a good addition to your stack and should be worth a try. Don't wait to just be poker lucky. Start playing with the right poker mentality today!
